2019 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2019 UnionCountyHighSchoolFootball.com's Defensive Player of the Year is Weddington's Alec Mock. Mock helped lead the Weddington Warriors to a 16-0 record and the 3A State Title! Alec anchored the Warrior defense by recording 160 tackles, 85 solo tackles including 12 tackles for a loss. Mock, a 6’3 225 pound linebacker/defensive end recorded 2.5 sacks, 4 interceptions including returning one for a TD. Mock forced 2 fumbles and recoverd 3 fumbles for the Warriors. Mock was named 1st team All-UCHSF, SCC Defensive Player of the year, All-SCC and 2nd Team All-State. Mock recorded double digit tackles in 8 games including 21 tackles (13 solo) & 1 interception in the 3AA State Title game while being named Defensive MVP of the State Title game. Mock also had 5 receptions for 24 yards and 3 TDs on offense to top off his outstanding 2019 season. Alec would go on to play football at the Air Force. Congratulations Alec it has been a pleasure!
