CUTHBERTSON

Cuthbertson (3-7, 1-4)

For the second year in a row the Cavs will have a new Head Coach in Duke Howell. Howell moves up from offensive coordinator for the Cavs to head coach and replaces Andy Markatine after one season. The Cavs will need to replace QB Parker Burke after Burke transferred out of Union Co. Rising junior Cooper Kiehl played in 8 games last at QB last season, throwing for 224 yards and 1 TD. The Cavs also will need to replace WR Keenan Jackson, who transferred to rival Weddington in the off season. Junior Cohen Kilgannon is the leading rusher returning for the Cavs with 199 rushing yards and 1 TD. The main target in the Cavs passing game will be senior WR Evan Taylor. Taylor had 38 receptions for 528 yads and 7 TDs in 2022 and has committed to Nebraska. Corban Hall and Logan Vail both were productive as receivers return. The Cavs kicker Spencer Crum is back (21-of-25 extra pts & 2-of-3 on FG’s) can be a weapon for the Cavs.

Defensively the Cavs should return their top 7 tacklers from 2022. Seniors Jack Simpson and Carlton Kimani led the Cavs with 91 tackles each in 2022. Senior Rocco Fazzolari, who recorded 60 last season and 6 sacks returns. He and Kimani are both UCHSF Defensive POY candidates. Junior twin linebackers Cohen (54 tackles) & Ryder Kilgannon (47 tackles) are back on defense for Coach Howell. Junior Cole Webster, who recorded 4 sacks in 2022 returns to anchor the defensive line. Don’t be surprised if Evan Taylor sees time in the defensive backfield in 2023. The Cavs open the 2023 season Aug 18th at Parkwood.
