Marvin Ridge (5-6, 3-2)

The Mavericks lost to rival Weddington in the 1st round of the state playoffs for the second year in a row. The Mavs return 3-year starter Evan Medders at QB, who is headed to the Air Force Academy. Medders missed 5 games as a junior but is healthy and ready to go. Medders, a true dual threat under center and future Air Force Falcon completed 59% of his passes for 1156 yards and 10 TDs along with rushing for 404 yards and 9 TDs. Senior tailback Jeremiah Liszewski will take some pressure off Medders after rushing for 465 yards and 5 TDs in 10 games last season. The offensive line will be anchored by 4-star recruit Kai Green. Green is impressive with his 6'6 frame that carries 270 lbs is committed to Stanford. The Mavericks return their 2 top receivers from 2022 in seniors Jackson Gibbs and Cole Searight. Gibbs recorded 27 receptions for 383 yards and 5 TDs. Searight (Richmond) recorded 36 receptions for 379 yards and 2 TDs in 202. Senior TE Mark Arthur is back as well after a 335 yards & 3TD junior season. Kicker Jackson Moore is gone due to graduation, so Dawson Jones is set to take the position over and already is committed to Army . Jones was 4-of-5 on PAT's and 1-of-1 on field goals last season.

The Mavericks defense gave up 20 points per game in 2022 and return 7 of their top tacklers from 2022. The Mavs defense will be led by seniors Nate Rawls and Cole Searight. Both were ALL-UCHSF and All-SCC as junior linebackers. Rawls, recorded 81 tackles including 54 solo stops. Searight, from the DB position recorded 75 stops with 45 of those were solo tackles. Senior DB Jackson Gibbs is back after leading the Mavs defensive backfield with 4 interceptions in 2022. Senior Finlay Mitchell returns to to the Maverick defense  after recording 3.5 sacks as a junior. Rawls and Gibson are both UCHSF Defensive POY candidates. Marvin Ridge opens the 2023 season hosting Reagan HS on Aug 18th.
