    Pirates McCall leads Pirates back to State Semi-Finals

    The Porter Ridge Pirates ran wild AGAIN in a 42-20 win over West Mecklenburg in the 3rd round of the state 4A playoffs. Porter Ridge is headed back to the state semi-finals. Senior QB Grayson McCall ran for 143 yards on 13 carries and scored 5 TDs in the win. Sophomore Brandon Perry ran for 104 yards and a TD as well. The Pirates will be at East Forsyth in the 4A State Semi Finals Friday Dec. 7th.

      Pirates run over Central Cabarrus in playoffs

      The Porter Ridge Pirates ran wild in a 48-22 win over Central Cabarrus in the 1st round of the state 4A playoffs. Porter Ridge had not played a game since October 26 due to Hickory Ridge forfeiting their season due to fight in their game vs. East Meck. Porter Ridge ran for 389 yards on the night. Senior Jaylen Coleman ran for 241 yards on just 15 carries and 3 TDs. Malcolm Hines added 118 yards and 2 TDs. Senior Grayson McCall scored the other TD. Jared Wheatley dwas 6-for-6 on PATs and 2-for-2 in on field goals. The Pirates will be at Greensboro Page in the 2nd round of the state 4A playoffs Friday Nov.23.

        Pirates win by forfeit

        The Porter Ridge Pirates were handed the win after Hickory Ridge forfeited the SW4A conference game. "Due to safety concerns over a limited number of players, Hickory Ridge vs Porter Ridge football has been cancelled." This is a resulte of a fight in last weeks win over East Meck. The Pirates will have to wait to see who they play in the 1st round of the state 4A playoffs. The playoffs begin Friday Nov.16.

          Pirates fall in rain soaked game 28-23

          Myers Park scored 22 unanswered points to defeat Porter Ridge 28-23 in a road conference victory on Friday night. The game was moved to Monroe High, which has an artificial turf, due to wet weather. The Mustangs took over sole possession of second place in the southwestern 4A Conference, improving to 4-1 in league play and 8-1 overall. Por ter Ridge reached the end zone on an 8-yard touchdown run by Jaylen Coleman (Duke commit) to put the first points on the board within the first two minutes of the game. The Mustangs capped off their first possession with sophomore quarterback Drake Maye completing a 32-yard touchdown pass to Bowick. They connected again in the second quarter with a 22-yard strike over the middle with three minutes into the half. Porter Ridge kicker Jared Wheatley made his only field goal attempt, a 51-yarder, to send the game into halftime. McCall finished the nihgt with 132 yards rushing and Coleman added 89 yards. The Pirates will travel to Hickory Ridge Friday Nov. 2nd

            Pirates turn it on in 2nd half on way to 40-19 SW4A win

            The Porter Ridge Pirates racked up 490 yards of offense on their way to a 40-19 win over Rocky River. Senior QB Grayson McCall and Senior RB Jaylen Coleman ran for 342 yards and 4 TDs in the win. Coleman ran for 201 and McCall ran for 141 on the night. McCall attempted just 8 passes, connecting on 5 for 113 yards and a TD. McCall hooked up with Seasn Beeman the TD pass. Senior Kicker was 2-of-2 on field goals. Porter Ridge improves to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Southwestern 4A conference. The Pirates will host Myers Park Friday Oct. 26th.

              Pirates run over Garinger 51-7

              The Pirates didn't let the game being moved to Saturday afternoo because of Hurricane Michael stop their running game, as they ran to a 51-7 win over Garinter. Senior Grayson McCall was 7-of-11 for 160 yards and 3 TDs in the win. Senior Jaylen Coleman ran the ball 8 times for 86 yards and 2 TDs. McCall added 84 yards rushing and a TD. McCall hooked up with Colton Richardson, Malcom Hines and Landyn ALexander for TD receptions. Junior Ralphn Covington added a TD on the ground. Porter Ridge improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the Southwestern 4A conference. The Pirates will travel to Rocky River Friday Oct. 19th.

                Pirates hammer Patriots 45-7

                After a last second loss last week to Butler, Porter Ridge took it out on Independence with a 38-point road win. The Pirates used their dominant rushing attack to rack up 423 yards on the night, third most this season. They rushed for five touchdowns, giving them 31 rushing touchdowns on the season. They average 9.4 yards per carry on the season. Three seniors combined to rush for 383 yards for the Pirates. Jaylen Coleman had 163 yards on 13 carries (12.5 yards a carry), QB Grayson McCall had 160 yards on nine carries (17.8 yards a carry) and Malcolm Hines rushed for 65 yards on five carries (13.0 yards a carry). Coleman and Hines each had two touchdowns on the night while McCall threw for one and rushed for another. Senior receiver Colton Richardson turned his only catch into a 21-yard touchdown for Porter Ridge. Porter Ridge improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the Southwestern 4A conference. The Pirates will host Garinger Friday Oct. 12th.

                  Pirates rally comes up short to Butler

                  The Butler Bulldogs scored with 15 seconds left to defeat Porter Ridge 34-28. The Bulldogs would lead 28-7 halfway through the third quarter before the Pirates made a furious rally. Porter Ridge senior Jaylen Coleman would score just before the end of the third quarter to pull within two touchdowns. Senior QB Grayson McCall would get his team within one score with just around seven minutes left in the game before Coleman scored again to tie the game at 28. The Bulldogs would drive down the field and, with seconds left, connected on a 15-yard pass for the gamewinning score. The Pirates running game was on par, finishing with 311 yards on the night. Coleman’s 162 yards led the way while McCall had 86 yards on the ground. Both players had scored 2 TDs on the night. The Pirates will be on the road at Independence Friday Oct. 5th.

                    Pirates open SW4A play with win

                    Porte Ridge opened up SW4A conference play with a 49-7 win over East Mecklenburg. The Pirates cruised to a 35-0 half time lead. Jaylan Coleman rushed fro 200 yards on 17 carries and a TD. Senior QB Grayson McCall ran for 94 yards and when he wanted to pass connected on 5-of-9 passes for 124 yards and at TD to Malcomb Hines. Hines had 74 yards rushing and 77 yards receiving and scored 2 TDs. Reserves Ralph Covington adn Kirkland Harris each added a rushing TD on the night. Porter Ridge (3-2, 1-0) will host Butler (3-2, 1-0) Friday Sep. 28th.

                      Pirates drop 2 in a row

                      Pirates fall to Spartans 38-21 Porte Ridge had no answer for the Sun Valley high powered passing game with Sam Howell and Gavin Blackwell, falling to Sun Valley 38-21 . Porter Ridge found themselves down 24-6 at the half after a Grayson McCall 2-yard TD run. With Sun Valley leading 24-6 at the start of the fourth quarter, Howell capped off a seven-play drive with a 40-yard strike to Blackwell for their third touchdown of thegame. After Porter Ridge answered with a 34-yard touchdown run by Malcolm Hines, Howell marched the Spartans right back down the field, ultimately reaching the end zone on a 24-yard touchdown run. The Pirates' Jaylen Coleman was held to 70 yards rushing and out of the endzone. Porter Ridge, which has suffered back-to-back losses after a 2-0 start, has a week off before opening Southwestern 4A Conference play against East Mecklenburg on Sep. 21.

                        Pirates fall to Warriors 28-12

                        The Porte Ridge Pirates led 6-0 but with the injuries to seniors Grayson McCall and Jaylen Coleman — both of which sat out the majority of the second quarter — put the team’s offense in a rut. Weddington held the Pirates to 192 yards on the ground, 54 of which came on a long touchdown run by junior running back Alex Chapman that cut the game to 21-12 with 4:38 left in the third quarter but would noth threaten after that. The Pirates will host Sun Valley Friday Sept 7th and that is the UnionCountyHighSchoolFootball.com's Game of the Week.

                          Pirates hammer Panthers 48-6

                          After allowing the Panthers to recover the opening kickoff deep in their territory, the Pirates’ defense held tough and forced Piedmont to settle for a field goal. It turned out to be the Panthers’ only lead of the ballgame. Senior quarterback Grayson McCall led the way for Porter Ridge, running for two touchdowns and throwing for two others — including a 16-yard strike to senior receiver Jaylin Daniels that gave their team the lead for good early in the first quarter. Senior running back and Duke commit Jaylen Coleman ran for 123 yards on just seven carries, including a 52-yard score that gave the Pirates a 21-6 lead in the second quarter. Coleman didn’t play in the second half after having his ankle stepped on in the second quarter. Por ter Ridge has established itself as one of the most explosive of fensive ttacks in the county. The Pirates wi l l have their work cut out for them next week, when they travel to Weddington Friday Aug 31st. That is the UnionCountyHighSchoolFootball.com's Game of the Week.

                            Pirates put up 56 in week 1 win over Cavs

                            The Pirates Jaylen Coleman put the Pirates on his back and ran for 349 yards and four TDs leading the way to a 56-35 win over Cuthbertson. A 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior tailback who has committed to Duke, Coleman had touchdwon runs of 75 and 67 yards in the second half to help put the game out of reach. Coleman's 349 yards is good for 3rd all time in Union Co. history for single game rushing yards. Porter Ridge finished with 726 yards of offense, including 634 on the ground. Senior quarterback Grayson McCall also turned in a standout per formance, carrying 11 times for 207 yards. His 85-yard TD run in the first quarter was the longest offensive play of the game. Senior tailback Malcolm Hines added three touchdowns for the Pirates, including a 33-yard TD catch on the first drive of the game. He had a rushing score just before halftime and his nine-yard TD run midway through the fourth gave PR a 21-point advantage.Porter Ridge senior kicker Jared Wheatley, a Charlotte commit, made all eight of his extra points. The Pirates will host Piemdont Friday Aug 24th. That game is the UCHSF Game of the Week.
