    Cards drop 6th game in a row

    Thomas Jefferson capped off its undefeated regular season with a road win over Union Academy. The Gryphons were the outright league champions in the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference after sharing the conference title the past two seasons. Union Academy got on the board when senior Hayden Gosnell found junior Derek Young in the endzone to cut the lead to 21-7. Gosnell finished his last game 6-of-12 for 74 yards and 1 TD. Derek Young had 5 receptions for 69 yards and 2 TDs. The Cardinals could only manage 90 rushing yards on 24 carries with Chris Morgan leading the way wtih 70 of those. The Cardinals have lost six straight and finish the regular season 3-8 overall and 1-6 in league play.

      Cards drop 4th in a row

      Union Academy fell just short on the road, losing to Community School of Davidson. The Cardinals would get on the board first with a touchdown run from senior Carson Malone to take a 7-0 lead into the second quarter. The Spartans would answer back and the game was tied 7-7 at the half. After Davidson took a 14-7 lead, the Cardinals responded with a touchdown pass from senior Hayden Gosnell to junior Derek Young to tie the game again, 14-14. Community School of Davidson then scored 14 straight points before Gosnell found Young again for the last sore of the night for Union Academy. Union Academy falls to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference. The Cardinals will look to snap a four game losing streak Friday Oct 26th as they take on Highland School of Technology at home.

        Cards drop 3rd in a row

        Cherryville trailed most the game before rallying to defeat Union Academy at home. The Ironmen took their first lead of the night in the fourth quarter, 27-24, and added on a late touchdown to put the game away. Union Academy took a 3-0 lead on senior Carson Green’s field goal. Senior Hayden Gosnell found senior teammate Chris Morgan for a touchdown and a 9-0 Cardinals lead after the first quarter. After Cherryville cut the lead to 9-7, Union Academy struck again with a touchdown by senior Carson Malone. The two point conversion gave UA a 17-7 lead. The last touchdown of the night for Union Academy was a Gosnell pass to Derek Young Jr. to extend the final lead of the night to 24-13. Cherryville scored 21 unanswered points to complete the comeback. UA is now 3-5 overall and The Cards will try to end a three game losing streak Friday when they travel to Community School of Davidson Friday Oct. 19th.

          Cards drop 2 in a row

          Union Academy senior Hayden Gosnell threw to junior Derek Young to cut the deficit to one score, 21-14 going into the final quarter, but Bessemer City held off the rally. The Cardinals are now 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Southern Piedmont 1A conference. They will try to end a two game losing streak Friday when they travel to face Cherryville Friday Oct. 5th.

            Cards fall to Mountain Island

            Union Academy fell short Friday night, as Mount Island Charter scored 16 unanswered points to get the road conference win. Union Academy trailed 6-0 before senior Chris Morgan scored the only touchdown of the night for the Cardinals to give his team a 7-6 lead going into the second quarter. Mount Island Charter would hold the home team scoreless the remaining three quarters and score two touchdowns to get the win. Union Academy falls to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Piedmont 1A Conference. The Cardinals will host Bessemer City, who is in first place in the conference this Friday Oct. 5th.

              Cards win 28-6 over NS Christian

              Union Academy went on the road and held off a second-half rally from Pine Lake Prep to get the win in its Southern Piedmont 1A Conference opener. The Cardinals jumped out to a 17-6 halftime lead before the home team started to make a comeback. Pine Lake Prep cut the lead to 17-13 in the third quarter, but after one drive stalled, they were forced to punt. The snap went over the punter’s head and he fell on it inside the five yard line, giving the Cardinals the ball with a short field. Union Academy senior Carson Malone took advantage, rushing for the TD to give his team a 23-13 lead The Cardinals are now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference. They will be at home against Mountain Island Charter in conference play Friday Sept. 28th

                Cards have no answer for Panthers running game

                Union Academy had no answer for the Panther running game falling to Piedmont 47-9. Piemdont ran for 520 yards in the win. Union Academy’s lone TD came midway through the four th on a 88-yard run by sophomore Isaac King, who finished with 149 yards on 13 carries. Cards senior QB Hayden Gosnell threw for 146 yards in the loss, while junior receiver Derek Young hauled in a gamehigh seven catches for 82 yards. Union Academy will travel to Northside Christian Friday Sept 7th.

                  Cards shut-out 46-0

                  Metrolina QB Myles Saxton was in on five touchdowns in Week 2, leading Metrolina Christian to a 46-0 home win over Union Academy. Union Academy had no answer for Metrolina, junior Jadus Davis rushed for 132 yards while Girard had 113 receiving yards on four catches. Saxton threw for 195 yards. After putting up a school record 73 points last week, Union Academy was shut out for the first time in 19 games dating back to September 2016. The Cardinals host Piedmont Friday Aug 31st.

                    Cards shut-out 46-0

                    Union Academy started the season in record breaking fashion, breaking the school record for points in a game with 73 in the 73-38 win. Junior Josh Harris took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown for a 7-0. Union Academy led 40-6 at the half. Sophomore Isaac King had two rushing touchdowns and returned an interception 95 yards for another score while teammate Chris Hayward also scored three TDs on the ground. Senior Chris Morgan had two touchdowns while juniors Jalen Hickmon and Derek Young had one receiving TD each. The Cardinals travel to Metrolina Chrisitan Friday Aug 24th.
