Sun Valley's Sam Howell eclipses 3000 passing yards again.

For the third consecutive year Sun Valley's Sam Howell threw for 3000 yards. Howell eclipes the 3000 yard mark inthe 27-20 win over Mt. Tabor in the 3rd round of the state playoffs. Howell threw for 3586 as a freshman, 3217 as a sophomore and thru round 3 of the playoffs Howell has 3064 yards. Congrats Sam!!

Weddington's Litton ties Warriors single season passing TD record

Weddington’s junior quarterback Whitner Litton finishes the 2017 with 30 passing touchdowns. Litton ties the Weddington record held by Jeff Welch, who threw 30 touchdowns in 2013, the same year Welch won the's Player of the Year. Litton finishes his junior year with Weddington single season records for passing yards (3118) and tied with passing TDs (30). Congrats Whitner!!

Mavericks Deveaux headed to The Citadel!

Marvin Ridge’s outstanding running back Caleb Deveaux is headed to the Citadel. Deveaux announced his future via his twitter account, “First, I’d like to thank God for blessing me with the talent to play a sport that I love! I would like to thank my family for helping through the process and believing in me. Every coach, teammate and friend I appreciate your support and encouragement. I will continue my education and football career at The Citadel! #FireThoseCannons.” In his 4 years at Marvin Ridge, Caleb rushed for 3423 yards and 47 TDs and helped the Mavericks to their best record in school history. Caleb was name 1st team All-UCSHF as a junior and 2nd team All-USHSF as a sophomore. Caleb’s 3423 career rushing yards ranks him 11th all-time in Union Co. history and his 47 career rushing TDs ranks him 6th all-time. Congrats Caleb!

Weddington's Litton ties Warriors single game TD record

Weddington’s junior quarterback Whitner Litton threw 6 touchdowns in the 55-24 1st round playoff win over Hickory. Litton hooked up with Max Brimigion and Chazton Jordan twice and James Shipley along with Will Shipley for the touchdowns. Litton ties a Weddington school record held by Jeff Buseick. Buseick threw 6 scores vs. Sun Valley in 2002. Congrats Whitner!!

Weddington's Brimigion sets Warriors single season receiving record!

Weddington junior receiver Max Brimigion is now Weddington's single season leading yardage receiver. Brimigion entered week 11 showdown with rival Cuthbertson needing 155 yards receiving to move past Ryan Black in the Warriors record book. Brimigion finished the 45-0 win over Cuthbertson with six catches for 173 yards and three touchdowns. Congrats Max!!

Weddington's Litton sets Warriors single season passing record

Weddington’s junior quarterback Whitner Litton needed 226 passing yards to set a Weddington record for passing yards in a single season. Litton got the 226 he needed and finished with 269 yards in the 34-0 win over Monroe and now sits atop the Warrior record book for passing yards in a season with 2374 passing yards. The Warrior record was held by Jeff Welch who threw for 2331 passing yards in 2013. David Bayha threw for 2318 yards in 2016 while leading Weddington to the 3A State Title. The Weddington record for career passing yards is held by Anthony Boone with 5244 yards from 2006-2009. Congrats Whitner!!

Piedmont's Matt Price joins the 3000 yard club!

Piedmon't Matt Price needed just 4 yards to join the 3000 yard club, he ran for the 4-yards needed and added few more in Piedmont's 31-14 win over Parkwood. Matt ran for for 157 yards on 29 carries and three touchdowns in the win over Parkwood. Price has 3153 career rushing yards and 34 career rushing TDs with one game left in his Piedmont career. Price joins Monroe's Nelson McKinley and Marvin Ridge's Caleb Deaveaux as the newest members of the 3000-yard club Congrats Matt!!

Sun Valley's Sam Howell sits atop the Union Co. record book again

Sun Valley's Sam Howell needed 214 yards enterning week ten's match up with Cuthbertson to move into the #1 spot in career passing yards in Union Co. history. Howell threw for 266 yards and now is "King of the Mountain" in the Union Co. record book for passing. The junior quarterback continues to re-write the Union Co passing records thew for five TDs in the game giving him a total of 100 passing TDs with at least 2 games left. Howell hooked up with Anthony Marple for four of the five in the win over Cuthbertson. Cuthbertson’s Austin Kendall held the career passing yards record with 8588 yards despite playing his sophomore year at Charlotte Christian. Congrats Sam!!

Sun Valley's Sam Howell started a new club Friday night and is the only one allowed in currenlty. The club's name: "The 100 Career passing touchdowns club" and currently Howell is the lone member. Howell set the Union Co. record when for career touchdown passes in week 9 with 6 TDs in a win over Monroe putting him at 95 career passing scores. Howell threw 5 more TDs in the week 10 42-13 win over Cuthbertson giving him 100 touchdown passes for his career. Congrats Sam!!

Sun Valley's Anthony Marple ties record!

Sun Valley's senior Anthony Marple tied the Union Co. record for TD catches in a game with four. Marple's four TD receptions in a game ties him with his former teammate and current Coastal Carolina WR Jeremiah Miller, Cuthberton's and current Wingate Bulldog WR BJ. Muckelvane, Piedmont's Cameron Leviner and Dan Brooks. Marple now has 23 career receiving touchdowns with at least two games left in his Sun Valley career. Congrats Anthony!!

Redhawks Nelson joins 3000 yard club!

Monroe's Nelson McKinley is the newest member of the 3000 yard club. In the 21-20 win over Piedmont Nelson rushed for 127 yards on 17 carries. McKinley entered the game with 2891 career rushing yards an dnow has 3018 career rushing yards. Nelson is the second Union Co. player to join the 3K club joining Marvin Ridge's Caleb Deveaux who entered the 3000 yard club after the week 7 win over Parkwood. Nelson also ran for for two touchdowns in the win over Piemdont giving him 35 career rushing TDs. Nelson has 40 career touchdowns scored in his 4 years at Monroe. Congrats McKinley!!

Sun Valley's Sam Howell sets Union Co. passing record!!

Sun Valley's Sam Howell entered the SCC match up with Monroe needing just one passing TD to tie the Union Co. record for career passing touchdowns. Howell smashed the record by throwning six touchdowns in the 42-14 win over Monroe. Howell currenlty has 95 career passing touchdowns. Cuthbertson’s Austin Kendall, currently a redhshirt QB at Oklahoma played three seasons at Cuthbertson and held the Union Co. record when he threw 90 career touchdown passes despite playing his sophomore year at Charlotte Christian. Congrats Sam!!

Mavericks Deveaux joins 3000 yard club!

Marvin Ridge's Caleb Deveaux entered the 3000 yard club after rushing for 84 yards in 48-6 win over Parkwood. Deveaux currenlty ranks 14th all-time in career rushing yards in in Union Co. history. Deveaux also rushed for two touchdowns, giving him 43 career rushing TDs which ranks him 8th all-time in Union Co. history. Deveaux now has 44 career touchdowns scored. Congrats Caleb!

McLaughlin's 310 yards 6th best all-time in Union Co. history!

Forest Hill's senior tailback Jaleel McLaughlin ran for 310 yards in a 46-39 win over Central Cabarrus. McLaughlin's 310 rushing yards ranks him 6th all time in Union Co. history and the 2nd most in Forest Hills school history. Jaleel joins the ranks of Albert Funderburk, Rasheed Rushing, and former Yellow Jacket Jamie Taylor as Union Co's best. Congrats Jaleel!! Most Rushing Yards in a Game

Sam Howell joined an elite club despite losing to Weddington 36-35. Howell's 226 passing yards put him into the 8000 career passing yard club. Howell now has 8014 yards and is closing in on the Union Co. record for career passing yards. Cuthbertson’s Austin Kendall currenlty holds the career passing yards record of 8588 yards. Congrats Sam! Nelson joins elite club

Mckinley Nelson carried the ball 27 times for 242 yards and 5 touchdowns in the 67-40 win over rival Forest Hills. Mckinley joins former Redhawk standouts Donnard Covington & Albert Ashcraft in rushing for five touchdowns in a gamea and Braxton Knotts with TDs scored in a game. Congrats Mckinley!!!

Austin Richardson (PR)

Pirates Richardson headed to ECU!

Porter Ridge WR/DB Austin Richardson will continue his education and football career at Eastern Carolina in the fall of 2018. Richardson announced his decision via the Porter Ridge football Twitter account (@PorterRidgeFB). Richardson had 18 receptions for 370 yards and scored 5 TDs for the 7-5 Pirates in 2016. On defense Richardson had 25 takcles adn 2 interceptions. Richardson was named All-SW4A as a defensive back in 2016.

C.A.T.A. Cougars

Cougars find their man

CATA has finally found their head caoch. In late May, the school named Tony Byrum its new coach. Byrum was an assistant at the school for two years under departing head coach Shane Griffin. Central’s new head coach is now Jeff Edwards, a former defensive coordinator at nearby Sun Valley High School. Edwards has also coached defense at West Lincoln, South Stanly and Fairmount. Central Academy was 1-10 last season and lost its final nine games. Since opening in 2007, the school has never had a winning season. Its best year came under coach Tad Baucom in 2011, when the Cougars finished 5-7.

Luke Burrnette (SV)

Sun Valley's Luke Burnette committs App State.

Sun Valley's Luke Burnette Burnette caught 23 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns as a junior at Sun Valley. On the defensive side of the ball Burnette had seven sacks and 57 tackles as a defensive end. The App State coaching staff projects him as a tight end or offensive tackle. Burnette also has offers from Richmond, Elon and Florida International. The Spartans went 8-4 last season.

Cougars still looking for a headcoach.

Central Academy High football coach Tony Byrum has resigned as head football coach 5 days after accepting the position. CATA's twitter account lists personal reasons for his stepping down. CATA will now resume the search for a new football coach.

Mannesseh Missick (UA)

UA's Missick headed to play college football!

Union Academy’s multi-talented Mannesseh Missick has signed to continue his education and football career at NC Wesleyan. Missick was named 2nd Team All-UCHSF as a senior after rushing for 1091 yds and 10 touchdowns and threw for 1069 yds and 10 touchdowns as well as being named All-Yadkin Valley in 2016. For his career Manasseh has 2945 career passing yards and 22 TDs along with 1708 rushing yards and 23 TDs. GOOD LUCK Mannesseh!

Ishod Finger (SV)

Sun Valley's Finger transfers out!

Sun Valley’s leading rusher from 2016 will not return for his senior year. Ishod Finger, who rushed for 1110 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior will play his senior year at Metrolina Christian Academy. Finger announced his intentions via this twitter account, “After a thought-out process with family and friends I feel it would be in my best interests to attend Metrolina Christian for my senior year of football. I am thankful for all that Sun Valley has done for me through the years but it comes a time and place where a man has a stand on his own two feet and do what he feels is better for himself.” Finger was named 2nd Team All-UCHSF as a junior. Finger had 17 catches for 179 yards and 3 scores. Sophomore QB Sam Howell was the Spartans 2nd leading rusher in 2016 with 444 yards on the ground and 12 rushing TDs. Good Luck Ishod!

NIck Stitt & Rheece Hillard

Parkwood's Stitt & Hillard headed to play college football!

Parkwood’s Nick Stitt will continue his education and football career at North Carolina Wesleyan. Stitt signed his letter of intent earlier this week and Mr. Stitt announced via his twitter account, “Committed to another four years to be a student-athlete at North Carolina Wesleyan.” Stitt, 5’6 150 lbs played receiver and defensive back for the Lynn Coble and the Rebels. Nick has 432 career receiving yards on 45 receptions and 4 touchdowns. Defensively Stitt has 5 career interceptions along with 77 tackles for the Rebels. Congrats Nick!!!!

Parkwood’s Rheece Hillard joins Nick Stitt in in continuing his football career and education as he is headed to St. Francis. Hilliard, a two-year starter for the Rebels at defensive end had 62 career tackles along with 5.5 sacks for Coach Coble. Congrats Rheece!!

Tyrese Marsh

Yellow Jackets Marsh headed to Catawba

Forest Hills Tyrese Marsh will continue his education and football career at Catawba. Marsh was a 3 year starter at linebacker Forest Hills and recorded 360 total tackles, 259 solo tackles. Marsh added 2 interceptions in his 3 years at Forest Hills. Marsh was named All-UCHSF 1st team as a junior and senior along with All-Rocky River for 3 years. Congrats Tyrese!!

Parkwood names Speakman as new HC.

Speakman came to Parkwood from Ave Maria University, where he served as the head softball coach. He was also the football team’s offensive coordinator from 2010-13. Speakman, who has 28 years of football coaching experience, was par t of Appalachian State’s football staff under head coach Jerry Moore. After his time at App State, Speakman spent four seasons as the head football coach at Pal- metto Ridge High School in Naples, Florida. Under Speakman, Palmetto Ridge finished 7-4 in 2006 and 7-3 in 2007. Speakman, who is now the head softball coach at Parkwood takes over a football team that finished 6-6 under head coach Lynn Coble last season. Coble spent the last six seasons at the helm for the Rebels, compiling a 27-45 record with the team. Parkwood has finished above .500 four times in the past 13 seasons, including twice under Coble. The Rebels will compete in the Southern Carolina 3A Conference next season as they move from the Rocky River 2A Conference. Coach Speakman!!!
