PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2017 UnionCountyHighSchoolFootball.com's Defensive Player of the Year is Sun Valley’s Roy Artolozaga. Roy helped lead the Sun Valley Spartans to a 11-4 record and a spot in the 3A State Semifinals for the first time in Sun Valley school history. Roy recorded 174 tackles, 86 solo tackles and 5 tackles for a loss. Artolozaga, the 6’0 221 lb. linebacker recorded 8 sacks and added blocked field goal. Roy added a safety vs. Anson Co. Roy was named 1st team All-UCHSF as a senior and All-SCC for the second year in a row. He recorded double digit tackles in 13 games and had a season high 16 tackles in win over Parkwood. Artolozaga also scored two offfensive touchdowns (vs. Piemdont and Marvin Ridge) along with a 2-pt conversion to top off a great 2017 season. Roy would go on to attend West Point and play Rugby for the Golden Knights. Congratulations Roy!!
