2017 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

The 2017 UnionCountyHighSchoolFootball.com's Player of the Year is Sun Valley's Sam Howell. Sam had another tremendous year at Sun Valley leading them to an 11-4 record all the way to the NC state semi-finals. Howell is a dual threat at QB and led Union Co. in every major passing categorie. Howell led all of Union Co. in pass completions (225), pass attempts (382), passing yards (3372) and passing TDs (36) despite missing 1 1/2 games. Howell threw for 300+ yards four times during the 2017 season. Sam threw 6 TDs in a 42-14 win over Monroe and 5 TDs in a game twice (vs. Forest Hills & Cuthbertson). On the ground, Howell took his game to the next level by leading Union Co. in both rushing yards (1517) and rushing TDs (24). Sam ran for 201 yards and 4 TDs in a 42-41 win over Porter Ridge. Howell was named UCHSF Player of the Week four times during the 2017 season. Congratulations Sam!
