The Spartans improved in the 1st year under Sun Valley HC Ryan Smith. The Spartan offense returns senior QB Brady Turriff (1643 yds & 17 TDs). The offense loses RB Tony McFadden (960 yds) and WR Landon Thomas (800 yds) to graduation. Senior Braylon Martin will be used as a RB and WR on offense. Whoever decides to step up and into those starting positions will be leaned on to take some pressure off Turriff.
Defensively the Spartans will continue to improve from 2022 after giving up an average of 30.7 points per game. The Spartan defense will be led by senior DB Braylon Martin who is a ball hawk in the defensive backfield after grabbing 3 interceptions for Sun Valley in 2022. Sophomore LB Brandon Creech, 85 tackles started the majority of 2022 as a freshman and will get better as will sophomore LB Zach Cullen, 55 tackles in 2022. Martin and Creech are both UCHSF Defensive POY Candidates. The Spartans will open the 2023 season hosting Central Cabarrus on Aug. 18th.
