Sun Valley Spartans

Sun Valley: The Spartans (5-7, 2-3) future really looks bright and it starts with sophomore QB Sam Howell. Howell threw for 3586 yards and 35 TDs in 2015 as a freshman. Howell’s 3586 passing yards now ranks 2nd All-Time for a single season in Union Co. history. Howell also owns the record for passing yards in a game with 461 vs. Cuthbetson.

The Spartans return 6 of their 7 receivers from 2015 and leading the way is D-1 prospect senior Jeremiah Miller (60 rec/1415 yds/21 TDs. Junior Anthony Marple (59 rec/890 yds/9 TDs) returns along with TE Luke Burnetter (21 recs/268 yds/1 TDS). In his three seasons with the Spartans, Miller has 2,230 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns. The Spartans offense rushed for 1780 yards as a team in 2015. Ishod Finger led the Spartans with 793 yards and 4 TDs. Fabrice Funderburke ran for 694 yards and 12 TDs. Sam Howell added 7 rushing TDs for Coach Baucom.

The Spartan defense will be anchored by junior Ray Artolozaga, Artolozaga finished the 2015 season with 129 tackles. Elijah Last returns after posting 74 tackles in 2015 as a sophomore. Artolozaga added 8 sacks in 2015 and Last had 5 sacks for the Spartan defense. Senior Darius Huntley returns after posting 4 interceptions in 9 games as a junior. The Spartans open up at Monroe, who won the 2A State Title in 2015 on August 26th.
