Weddington (10-4 & 5-2) finished 3rd in the SCC in 2018 and advanced to the 3rd round of the state playoffs before falling to State Champ Charlotte Catholic. The Warriors have a new coach in Andy Capone. Capone has a high-powered offense led by senior QB Whitner Litton, sophomore RB (Will Shipley and Junior WR Max Brimigion. Litton threw for a school record 3117 yards and tied a school record with passing for 30 TDs in 2017. Shipley was the 2017 UCHSF New Comer of the Year after 690 yards rushing and 5 TDs an was good for 423 yards receiving and 8 TDs. Brimigion led Union Co. with 1366 yards receiving on 60 receptions and led Union Co. in receiving TTs with 16 touchdown catches. James Shipley returns for his senior year and is a do-it-all offensive player. James had 662 yards receiving on 59 catches and 3 TDs and had 385 return yards and a kick-off returned for a score.

The Warrior defense returns 2 of their top 3 tacklers from 2017. Junior Alec Mock (145 tackles) and senior Eamon Murphy (142 tackles) will anchor the defense. Junior Trey Alsobrooks added 91 stops and sophomore Will Shipley recorded 84 stops for the Warrior defense. Senior James Shipley led the Warriors with 6 interceptions. Junior DB Chase Turner racked up 75 tackles in 2017 and 5 interceptions (2 returned for TDs) but will miss the 2018 season with a torn ACL. Max Brimigion recorded 5 interceptions each last season The Warriors open the season on August 17th at Ardrey Kell.
