Weddington

Weddington (13-2, 5-0)

The Warriors lost in the state semi-finals to Grimsley in 2022 and are looking to make another state title run. The Warriors return UCHSF O-Player of the year in QB Tyler Budge. Budge, a Georgia Southern commit connected on 60% of his passes for 3219 and 34 TDs, all were Weddington school records. The Warriors graduated their top 5 receivers from 2022. Weddington remedies that with the transfer of WR Keenan Jackson from rival Cuthbertson. Jackson, a UNC Chapel Hill commit recorded 50 receptions for 582 yards and 7 TDs for a 3-7 Cavs team while being named All-UCHSF and All-SCC. Senior RB Nick Diamond (All-SCC) returns after 573 yards and 9 TDs junior season on just 72 carries. The Warriors have senior Everett Scott back after going 58-of-62 on PATs & 6-of-11 on field goals as a junior.

The Warrior defense will be as strong as ever. Senior Braeden Barger will lead the Warrior defense after putting up 82 tackles as a junior. Senior DL Michael Luisa recorded 80 stops and will return to the Warrior defensive line. Seniors Ian McDermaid and Sam Neely (Wake Forest) both return to the Warrior defensive backfield after recording 3 interceptions each in 2022. The Warriors youth is a plenty in rising sophomore twins Aiden and Andrew Harris are STUDS on the defensive line and will be a handful for every offensive line in 2023. The Harris twins combined for 108 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2022. Sophomore LB Thomas Davis Jr. can play anywhere on the field and had 2 INTs returned for TDs as a freshman. The Warriors open the 2023 football season on Aug. 17th vs. Cox Mill at Memorial Stadium.
