Weddington

Weddington (16-0 & 7-0) are the reigning 3AA State Champions again and will look to defend that title in 2020. The Warriors lose the best player in Union Co. with senior running back Will Shipley. Shipley, the future Celmson Tiger returns after rushing for 2066 yards and 31 TDs as a junior while being named UCHSF-Player of the Year, 1st team All-UCHSF, All-SCC and SCC POY. Shipley scored 42 total TDs in 2019. Running backs Trey Gordan (425 yds/4 TDs) and Kyle Parsons (492 yds/6 TDs) will look to take over for Shipley. Senior QB Dante Casciola tied for the lead for TD passes in 2019 while throwing for 1571 yards. Casciola will look for Shipley as he led the Warriors in receiving yards 582 and touchdown catches with 9. Junior WR Landon Backey (15 recs/269 yds/4 TDs) and senior Kambridge Tuttle (10 recs /213 yds/4TDs) will be important parts of the Warrior passing attack.

The Warrior defense graduates their top 3 tacklers from last year’s state title team in Mock, Alsbrooks, and Mustapha. The Warriors defense will be anchored by seniors Joe Zovistoski (67 tackles/ 9.5 sacks) and Cole Wiseman (49 tackles and 8.5 sacks). Zovistoski was named 1st Team All-UCHSF last year Wiseman was named 2nd Team All-UCHSF as a junior. Senior DB Jalen Newman (52 tackles/1 INT) senior. Newman was Honorable Mention All-UCHSF. Senior Evan Schwartz will be counted on to step up after a productive junior year (29 tackles and 3 sacks). The Warriors kicking game will need to be replaced with the graduation of Ian Williams (88-of-92 on XPS and 6-of-12 on field goals). The Warriors open the spring football season on Feb. 26 at Sun Valley.
