The Warriors are the defending 4A state champs BUT will need to replace lost the UCHSF O-Player of the year in QB Tyler Budge (Georgia Southern) and record setting WR Keenan Jackson (UNC). The Warrior do return All-UCHSF and All-SCC senior RB Nick Diamond who led Union Co. with 991 rushing yards and 11 TDs. Senior QB Greg Fee will be under center for the Warriors in 2024. Fee saw action in 10 games last season and threw for 390 yards and 4 TDs. Sophomore Anthony Barrino ran for 366 yards on just 42 carries and scored 2 TDs in limited action as a freshman. Javon Barber will be the main target through the Warrior air attack. Barber but up strong numbers in 2023 with 611 receiving yards on 40 catches and 7 TDs in 2023.
The Warrior defense will be the strongest Warrior defense Union Co. has ever seen . The Warriors return almost everyone on defense and add a future Ohio State Buckeye to the defensive line. Weddington’s defense starts with up front with Adian and Drew Harris on the defensive line. Both were named All-UCHSF and All-SCC as sophomores and have garnered multiple Power-5 Offers. Junior LB Thomas Davis Jr. and senior Braden Barger will anchor the linebackers. Barger leads all Warriors that return with 107 tackles and added 4 sacks in 2023. Davis Jr recorded 92 tackles and an interception. The future Buckeye is 4-star senior defensive lineman Trajen Odom, who transferred to Weddington from Panther Creek (Cary, NC) in the off season. Odom is listed at 6’5 280lbs and registered 54 tackles along with 4 sacks at Panther Creek during his junior year. Everett Manderville will replace Everett Scott in the kicking game. Mandeville was 8-of-9 on PATs in 2023. The Warriors open the 2024 football season Friday Aug. 22nd vs. Providance Day at B-of-A Stadium.
